Here are my thoughts on a math resources blog!
K-5 Math Teaching Resources

·         What is the purpose of the web resource?
The website is there to provide many free (and purchasable) resources, games, readings, and lesson plan ideas to teachers. The grades range from Kindergarten to fifth grade and there is specific information based on the mathematical subject.

·          Would you use it? Why or why not? What questions about teaching and learning math could it help you answer
Initially I wanted to say yes that I would use this website. However, a lot of the material on there is equally accessible on pinterest. The great thing about this website though is that it is divided up by grade level. For this reason I think that it would be useful.

·          Could it help you gain more knowledge about your teaching? If so, how?
I think that it is always helpful to read about what another teacher is doing in his or her classroom and what is/is not working for them. I think that I could learn about myself as a teacher especially when it talks about how to set up an activity or lesson. Just because I know what I am teaching about doesn’t mean that I am approaching it in the best way. Or perhaps my strategies aren’t working and I can learn from another teacher who has been successful with a similar lesson.

·         What was the most interesting aspect of the resource?
I like how this blog/website didn’t just suggest to you how you could teach something. It provided links to books and resources that would be helpful as well as downloadable worksheets to use in the classroom. I also liked the 100th day of school activities! I am close with the Pre-K and Kindergarten teachers at my mom’s school and I really think they would appreciate these activities/the entire website!

Would you recommend the resource to someone else? Who and why?
My mom. My mom is a third grade teacher and she is often trying to switch up the activities that she does in her classroom. Like most classes, she has a few students that are above grade level and some that are below. I think that this website would help her because she could still look up lesson on numbers but simply find different activities for the varying levels in the class. I also think she would like to have the math games handy in case of a rainy day or indoor recess.

Upon being assigned to read this math blog I thought to myself, "Great. I'm going to have to read a boring blog about math problems and this won't be fun." I would like to go back and hit my old ignorant self. This blog was incredible. First and foremost, this blog was incredibly user friendly. It wasn't overwhelmingly "wordy" and there were nice visual representations. The blog is has headings on the left hand side to help with numbers, geometry, measurement, etc. Within each heading there are subsections for each grade level. This website provided free (and purchasable) resources for teachers and parents for lesson plans, games, books, and various tools to assist in teaching math. Truthfully I would recommend this website to any teacher or parent! The website not only provides resources but it helps set up math centers and even has anchor charts. The best part about these links, though, is that it gives you step by step procedures for set-up. This is truly an amazing math resource for all levels and ages!
